My First 1000 Reads On Medium

So it finally happened, after posting more consistently on Medium about the topics I’m engaged with, I finally had the first month where I achieved my first 1000 reads on Medium.

This also netted me 560 reads, generating me some income which I will discuss later in the post.

Introduction

As mentioned above, in February of 2024, I hit the first month on Medium where I had over 1,000 people view my article. This was really exciting for me, I’d been putting in more effort on Medium to see what potential it could hold.

Throughout February, I’d written at total of 15 posts. Ranging from: How To Take Screenshots On Windows 11–5 Methods; What Is Windows 11 S Mode; and How To Export Chrome Bookmarks [2024].

At the start of February, I had also written a post about doubling my Medium reads, but also mentioned that this didn’t double the income that was generated. You can read that post on my website or on Medium.

My Journey

Lets jump into my journey with Medium.

The Beginning

I posted my first article on Medium on the 9th of March 2017, which is a loooong time ago. However, I only really kept up with my website and not Medium. To be honest, I forgot about Medium until a while ago.

So where I have over 100 posts on this site, I only have 58 posted on Medium. But this still compounding into 1000 views today.

So after I made my first bit of income from Medium, I decided to invest more time into Medium so that I could build up another income. That hasn’t quite materialised but I’m still working towards that goal.

I honestly didn’t do too much to gain the 1000 views, I just consistently posted what I would normally put on my website. That’s it.

I found that my followers went up, but I also started following new people too and engaging with other Medium writers. So I actually went from 1 following in November 2023, to now having 35 followers and 2 email subscribers.

That’s like a 10000% increase from where I was this time last year. I honestly just wish I had started earlier, but at least I have a good grounding now to build from.

What I Earned

So for February, I earned a total of $0.63

I’m happy with that amount to be honest, like I said earlier it’s a good footing to then build up my following and increase my earnings.

I’m still not sure why my December earnings were so high, reaching $0.78 with far fewer views and reads.

Looking Ahead

Moving forward, I would like to continue growing my audience and increase the revenue I generate. I’m not putting a huge amount of effort into growing this however, I know other creators tend to aggressively reach out to other writers and run a ‘follow-back’ scheme. I’ve always found that to be cringey to be honest and it’s not something I want to do.

I would like to prefix that by saying, I do follow writers back. I even follow a couple of writers that are clearly just AI, but I find these useful for creative ideas and also new article formats.

Conclusion

That’s it, that’s all I wanted to unpack in this post. I’m happy with where I’m heading with Medium and my website in partnership.

I know some people would see it as ‘double-dipping’, but I see it simply as a method to spread my content to new horizons.
