How To Screen Record On iPhone

Taking screenshots on your iPhone nowadays just doesn’t cut the mustard. Today, many users require a screen recording instead as it offers a much better way of providing visual data rather than 30 screenshots. Lets learn how to screen record on iPhone!

Thankfully, Apple has made this easy on iPhones with the screen recording feature. You can now record your favourite YouTube clips, mobile gaming moments or errors for reporting right from your phone. No longer do you need to record your phone with another phone. New times ahead!

How To Screen Record On iPhone

Requirements

Since this feature was introduced into iOS 11, you’ll need that version or later in order to record your screen.

It kinda goes without saying, but you’ll also have to make sure you have enough free space on your device to save the recording.

Oh, and you might run into issues when recording sensitive applications. For example, whenever I try to screen record whilst opening my banking application, the recording turns black. This is a security feature, and a very welcome one from Apple.

Feature Restrictions

You may find that the screen recording option is completely greyed out and cannot be interacted with. If this is the case, then you need to enable it in the settings of your iPhone. You can follow the below steps on how to do this:

Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Content Restrictions

Once there, head down to the Game Centre

Tap on Screen Recording -> Allow

There you go, I think that alone just saved you 20 minutes of Googling. Definitely worth subscribing for!

Control Centre – For Easy Access

Before we jump into showing you how to record your screen, we think it would be helpful to setup quick access to this feature so that it’s faster and easier to find in future. In order to add the screen recording widget to your Control Centre, you can follow the below steps:

Swipe down from the top right corner (iPhone X+) or Swipe up (iPhone 😎

If you can see the screen recording widget, you can skip this entire section. If not continue to the next line.

Tap Settings -> Control Centre -> Customize Controls -> More Controls -> Screen Recording

Tap the plus button

Awesome, now that you have easy access to this feature in future, let’s jump into exactly how to use it.

How To Screen Record On iPhone

If you followed the above step, you can follow the below steps to start a screen recording:

Swipe down from the top right corner (iPhone X+) or Swipe down (iPhone 😎

Tap the Record Button

A timer will now commence before recording

To stop the recording, tap the red clock or bar at the top of your screen

It really is that easy to record your iPhone screen. In days past, it was much more complex, with many users resorting to using a separated iPhone to record the 1st one. This obviously led to both terrible image quality and little to no audio. Apart from your friends telling you to shut up whilst they recorded!

Conclusion

It’s worth noting that all screen recordings are saved to the same camera roll as regular pictures and videos. This makes it both easy to find and also easy to edit, since it uses the same editing controls.

As mentioned above too, if you don’t see these settings or options at all, you likely have to update your iPhone software or get a new iPhone altogether if it’s just too old to support the newer iOS versions.

You also don’t have a limit on the length of the screen recordings you make, thank you Apple! All you need to watch out for is that you don’t fill your iPhone’s memory as that will obviously stop the recording and cause additional issues.

Before you go, if you find yourself needing to share your location with your iPhone, you can follow this helpful guide!

Enjoy! 🎉
