2023 was an eye opening year for me. I’d been trying to find other ways of making money rather than just from my day job.
In 2023, I started two YouTube channels with the hope of monetizing them. The first one, a motivational channel, did very well however YouTube couldn’t accept it into the partner program.
The second channel is doing less well, however it’s all original content so I hope to monetize one day.
I also, started posting more to my personal blog site: https://mharwood.uk however, whilst it does get a decent amount of traffic, the AdSense is less than ideal. Making only about £0.70 a month… Definitely a loss when you take into account the domain and hosting.
This that blog wasn’t created to make money, so content is not very SEO optimised and posts were very infrequent and niched
This brings me onto Medium, I started posting my regular blog posts to Medium in 2017, however it suffered the same fate as my blog: very infrequent content.
It’s easy to look back and wish you did more, but there’s nothing I can do about the past.
With my content on Medium not very regular, I made 2023 the year where I would post more content. This did happen, but no where near as much as I wanted.
This is for a couple of reasons, new job, second baby and lots of work on the house meant less time for Medium.
So, without any further waiting, here is what I earned in Medium for the whole of 2023:

Yep that’s it.
As I mentioned above, there are reason for this.
- Lack of posting
- Lack of engagement on the platform
- Lack of following
- Poor choice of articles?
And many many more that I likely don’t even know about.
2024 will definitely be the year where I try to scale these earnings. Both on Medium and on my own blog site.
