I recently started a new blog to try out some SEO methods for generating more traffic.
The experiment is still underway but I wanted to share a difficulty I had. And I wanted to find a for ‘How To Set Favicon on WordPress Twenty Twenty-Four Theme’.
I couldn’t find where to change the favicon icon for my WordPress site whilst it was using the Twenty Twenty-Four theme.
After some Googling, I found 2 methods. I followed the second one as the first one didn’t actually work for me. I think it’s something to do with the WordPress site being self hosted and not on the WordPress hosting.
So here we go!
How To Set Favicon on WordPress Twenty Twenty-Four Theme
Method 1

Head over to the Site Logo block and click on the Settings icon to open the settings side bar

Click the Site Icon Settings button that opens the WordPress customization view

In the Site Icon section, click on the Select Site Icon button and make sure to either upload or select your own media

Publish your changes and you’re done!

Method 2
As mentioned above, Method 1 didn’t work for me as I couldn’t find the links in the GUI. Use these steps below is you’re in the same boat!

Enter the below URL into your web browser’s URL bar:
example.com/wp-admin/customize.php?autofocus[section]=title_tagline
Make sure to replace ‘example.com’ with your actual site

Now go into the Site Icon Settings and select Site Icon

Here, you can upload or select your own media from your WordPress media library

Publish the changes and you’re done!
Hopefully, this helps you as I couldn’t find the settings in the default viewer at all!

But I have to ask: Why was it so hard? Surely there must be an easier way. But where?
I find it difficult to believe that a major release like Twenty Twenty-Four would foul up with a basic setting like this.
If there wasn’t an “easy” path (that has eluded us both) I would have thought that this would be all over Google. But it appears not to be. Or doesn’t anyone set their favicon any more?
I had to use v2 too. There was simply no entry “Site Icon Settings” for me when I went through v1.
